Disruption. When the Photographic Image Tips Over.
From the series Disruption, 2023 · Roman Thomas
The point at which capture becomes intervention. Synthetically generated images, created in dialogue with the machine.
When the Image Tips Over
In Disruption, I leave the ground of the photographic capture. The images are synthetically generated, in dialogue with the machine. There is no place I would have visited, and yet the works ask the same question as my photography. How does a state become visible.
The AI becomes a tool, like a brush. Layering, intervention, rejection, until the image begins to resonate. What remains is not a likeness, but a feeling.
Between code and imagination, a new space emerges.
Large, Singular
Disruption is designed for presence in a room. The work takes shape as a large-format UV digital print, monumental and unique. The size is not an effect. It ensures that the image envelops the viewer instead of hanging before them.
Why This Belongs to Photography
Disruption is not a break with my work, but its continuation by other means. The way of seeing remains the same. Only the material is new.
