Prints from Hämeenlinna

In the summer of 2026 I lived and worked at the artist residency in Hämeenlinna. Two series grew out of that time: HEIMAT, landscape in motion, and HIDDEN PLACES, quiet urban typologies of the town.

That the prints can stay where the pictures were made, I owe to a man with a black hat. Terho Aalto, the photography legend of Hämeenlinna, heard that I was searching the internet for a printer, simply picked up the phone, and drove me across his town. One afternoon, two doors: Raatikuva, the photo shop Heikki Löflund founded in 1987 and runs today with his son Teemu, with a large Epson fine art printer right in the middle of the shop. And RaamiDaamit, where Anu Halmeniemi frames pictures and has filled a once empty shopfront with six small gallery rooms, all the way down into the basement.

So every print is made by Raatikuva on Hahnemühle William Turner paper. Framing is entirely up to you, but if you would like one, I can warmly recommend Anu: she builds individual frames, made to measure. The work supports the place it comes from. Only my part travels back to Germany.
