Heimat. Between Perception and Memory.

In Heimat I deliberately let go of the stability of the visible. Through movement of the camera during exposure, the structures begin to flow.
Landscape in Flow
In Heimat I give up part of the control. Through the movement of the camera during exposure, forms dissolve, condense, and connect anew. What emerges is something I cannot fully foresee, and that is exactly what interests me.
In these works, landscape no longer appears as a fixed place but as an open structure. Perception, memory, and feeling cannot be separated within it.
My photographs do not describe places. They make states tangible.
A Word That Slips Away
For me, the word Heimat is deliberately ambivalent. It describes not a concrete place but a state that keeps changing. Familiarity, but also loss. Closeness and distance at once. Heimat is not something static but something that arises in experience and can slip away again in the same moment.
In the Finnish Light
In 2026 I am working on this series as artist in residence in Hämeenlinna, Finland, as part of the long-standing cultural exchange between Celle and Hämeenlinna. A different light, the same question. How does space become an inner experience.
